living - low carbon fashion

March 2008

In August 2007 my husband and I moved to Brixham from London so that we could launch our ethical clothing business, Quail By Mail. There are a lot of eco fashion shops popping up all over but what makes Quail different is that we produce our own exclusive range of clothing and only use organic, fairtrade and ethical fabrics but better still all the manufacturing is done in East Devon. Usually fashion garments are manufactured abroad but Quail wants to see rural manufacturing revitalised in this country.

Quail can still offer customers great prices for a sustainably-produced garment using sustainable fabrics. Quail's live/work studio is a fisherman's cottage near the town centre and we had to renovate it before we moved in as it was left derelict for 7 years. We have a wormery, use only energy efficient lightbulbs, decorated with eco-friendly clay paint from Exeter, and we recycle all tin cans, milk bottles, paper and glass. This is our lifestyle and we enjoy it.
