Did you know that a very cheap way of heating water using sunlight is to pass cold water between two sheets of black plastic laying on a sloping roof? I did this at Wellington School with my Inventor's Club, and heated the water by recycling it from the swimming pool. The temperature increase was 7 degrees C.

In August 2007 my husband and I moved to Brixham from London so that we could launch our ethical clothing business, Quail By Mail. There are a lot of eco fashion shops popping up all over but what makes Quail different is that we produce our own exclusive range of clothing and only use organic, fairtrade and ethical fabrics but better still all the manufacturing is done in East Devon.

A year ago I was working in the travel industry, promoting luxury tourism and regularly flying out to Italy. I would only occasionally shop at a local organic store (when I felt I could afford it) and, despite some misgivings, I continued to buy food flown in from the most exotic and remote locations because they provided the rich and diverse tastes to which my palate had become accustomed.

I generally live a pretty 'green' lifestyle - shopping locally, growing some of my own food, not driving wherever possible, using a green energy tariff and energy efficient light bulbs, composting and recycling to name but a few things.

Climate Change, and our contribution to it has become increasingly high-profile over the last few years. Politicians of all parties, business leaders, the media and even ‘celebrities’ are talking about issues and asking us all to help with solutions. There are numerous campaign groups, and government sponsored campaigns telling us to do this, and do that, all with the intention of reducing our emissions of greenhouse gases such as CO2.
