You may be surprised at how easy it is to cut your carbon emissions. However many tonnes of carbon your initial footprint is (if you don't already know you carbon footprint, you can find out by answering a few questions on the Fair Shares, Fair Choice carbon calculator), there are loads of things you can do to reduce it - and you could find yourself living within your fair and safe carbon share for 2011, 3.67 tonnes!
Frances, mother of two, wants to be part of the low carbon solution to climate change and has found out how to reduce her carbon footprint in a few easy ways to live within the Fair Shares, Fair Choice carbon share for 2011:
Initial carbon footprint: 5.3 tonnes Target carbon footprint: 3.67 tonnes
To reach her target footprint, Frances plans to:
Holiday in Europe once instead of twice a year - carbon saving 500kg of C02 a year
Turn the house heating down 1 degree - carbon saving 333kg of C02 a year
Take the car roof rack off - carbon saving 288kg C02 a year
Buy only local, seasonal fruit and vegetables - carbon saving 500kg C02 a year
This gets Frances to her target footprint without drastically changing her lifestyle - and she achieves her target by choosing where to reduce her carbon emissions - Fair Shares, Fair Choice.
