your carbon share...your carbon choices!
There's a strong consensus about the levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions we need to stay within to avoid really extreme climate change. Whilst world leaders negotiate a global plan, scientific evidence, economic reports and weird weather suggest we've got to 'get on with it' now!
Fair Shares, Fair Choice (FSFC) can help you to stop being part of the climate problem and start being part of the low carbon solution - whether it's as an individual, a workplace or a community group. There are lots of other benefits to gain along the way too.
FSFC has used a CO2 reduction model called Contraction & Convergence (C&C) to calculate a ‘fair carbon share’ for every person who lives in the South West, along with an overall budget for the region (see SW Budget). 2008's fair carbon share for individuals is 4.1 tonnes. At an average of 4.8 tonnes (excluding carbon hefty international flights and cruises!) many of us are already in the red. To be on target to meet 2017’s budget (3.2 tonnes) we need to reduce our carbon spending by a third.
Through FSFC you can explore how to make your carbon budget go further and share your ‘carb-cutting’ stories. Joining the FSFC movement is a way to show your support for the principle of living within a globally fair and safe share of CO2 emissions (it isn't for anyone who feels that they will benefit from catastrophic climate change!). Sign up today to add your voice to the movement.
